Application Notes
Applying for UA does not automatically mean you are going to be selected. We have a limited number of open spots available and as much as we’d love to bring everyone along, to do so would be an absolute nightmare. In the interest of quality media coverage, we look for variety in the group, so as a result the kinds of vehicles we’re looking for change from year to year. This is also not a democratic process; there’s no public votes or anything like that. The things we consider are the vehicle itself, how it’s equipped, and how experienced you are with four-wheeling. Generally speaking, the more unique and colorful the vehicle is, the better. From there we’ll whittle down to a dozen finalists that we’ll publish on social media. These dozen finalists will be interviewed by phone, and then from there we’ll make our final selections.
Should you be selected, there is no fee to be a part of UA, however, you are entirely responsible for your own expenses at all times. This includes fuel, hotel rooms, food, entry fees to any private off-road parks or special activities, and so on. Your slot gains entry to the event for you as the driver and one co-driver that is over 18 years of age. No pets, children, or additional passengers are allowed.
IMPORTANT! Applications are Now Annual!
We’ve changed how we handle applications slightly. In the past if you applied but didn’t get selected, your application was automatically rolled over for consideration the following year. Easy peasy but with one huge fundamental flaw: change. People sell their rigs. People make wholesale changes to their rig and radically alter how it looks or how it’s equipped. People decide underwater basket weaving is a more engaging hobby and just get out of going four-wheeling. How bad would it suck to learn you made the dirty dozen and you sold your rig 6 months prior or rolled it hard and it’s in a million pieces in your garage?
Hence the change. Starting September 13th, 2025, applications will be handled on an ANNUAL basis. So in order to be considered for UA 2026, you will need to apply on or after September 13th, 2025. If you you applied for UA 2024 and UA 2025 but didn’t get selected AND you want to be considered for UA 2026, you will need to RE-APPLY after the 13th. Moving forward, application windows will be mid-September to mid-September for each subsequent year; the application window for UA 2026 will run 9/13/25-9/15/26, UA 2027 will be 9/16/26-9/15/27, and so on. Previous year applications will NO LONGER be automatically rolled over to the following year.
